PTT Seeding In The Future ASEAN Camp 2015
by Ms. Aychhay Hout
This article is about my new experience from the PTT ASEAN Camp. Firstly, I would like to explain about the background of the camp and the aims of the activity. Next, I am going to talk about my experience, what I learnt from the activities and what was I doing during the camp. This camp was organized from 29 September to 2 October 2015. However, PTT public company limited organized an activity entitled ‘PTT Seeding the Future ASEAN Camp 2015’ and they invited undergraduate students studying in Thailand or in their own countries in AEC (ASEAN Economic Community) where the company has operated its business. Currently, PTT operates in four other countries: Cambodia, The Philippines, Myanmar, and Laos PDR. The activity aims to support the community relations in the areas in order to build stronger relationships and deeper understanding about PTT’s business, to create PTT brand engagement, to provide education and career opportunities, and to support in creating a potential youth network in AEC which will be developed into a PTT staff network in the future. PTT Company selected five DPUIC students to join the camp including me (Aychhay), Ranavatar, Raksa from Cambodia. Tyrel from the Philippines and Alan from Myanmar,
On 28th September, which was a Monday afternoon, we went to check-in at the Holiday Inn Express Bangkok Siam. In the evening, PTT’s staffs took all of us to have dinner together at MBK. At that time, I made some new friends from different countries. They come from Cambodia, Myanmar, The Philippines, and Laos PDR. They are very nice and kind.
After we finished, we went back to the hotel and did an ice-breaking activity. This activity helped me to know more information about them and I had a chance to communicate with them as well. I can say that on the first day, we were just strangers to each other since we just met, so it was awkward for everyone to talk with strangers.
On the first day, on 29th September, in the morning, we went to PTT’s headquarters to listen to a welcome speech and opening ceremony by Executive Vice President of Commercial & International marketing and PTT Seeding In The Future VTR Presentation. Then, we visited PTT’s headquarters to see how they work. Then we had a company tour to the Eco building and listened to a presentation about the eco-system in PTT Company and visited Rayong Football Club. After we finished the presentation, we had lunch at PTT’s restaurant.
In the afternoon, we departed to the PTT Crystal Park on Chaiyapruek Road to walk around and listen to the presenter about their productions. After that, they allowed us to go shopping and taste the Cafe Amazon for free. Then, we walked outside to PTT gas station to learn about PTT’s green environment. At 4pm, we left PTT Crystal Park to the PTT operations center at PTT Khao Bo Ya LPG Terminal, Chonburi Province which is the place for all participants to stay. After we finished our dinner, we went to the meeting room to join the activities. We played games first in order to build our friendship. Then, we did a group activity in which the staffs separated all of us to work with different people from different countries. I think this is a good idea because I had a chance to share my knowledge or my ideas when I worked with them. This first thing we did was to choose which part of the whole body that they want to draw, and my group chose to draw the left arm. This activity shows us that even though we are not from the same country or we do not have the same background, we still can work together and walk together forever. After this activity, we had another activity where all the groups had to build their own city. However, my group built a PTT building with people walking around holding hands together with the map of ASEAN Countries. It means that we will walk together with PTT and we will help PTT to become world class. After all the groups finished their own city, the staff told all of them to destroy the other group’s cities and they went and destroyed the city. Actually this activity is very meaningful for me and I think for them as well because it shows how you feel when you see people destroy your city in front of you. However, I did not destroy any group’s city because at the moment, I stood in front of one group and I saw everyone tried to destroy the picture, but I saw no one destroying my Cambodia flag, so I think that if no one destroys my country, why do I have to go and destroy their country? This was the end of the first day’s activities.
On the second day, on 30th September, we went to Rayong gas Separation Plant (Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Herbs garden) and Thai Oil Refinery in Rayong Province. We went there to look at different kinds of herbs. In the afternoon, we went to Rayong Football Stadium. As the staff said, there is only PTT football stadium that has a roof on the top.
In the evening, we went back to the PTT operations center at PTT Khao Bo Ya LPG Terminal, Chonburi Province. After we finished our dinner, we went to the meeting room to do an activity again. Actually we always did activities after we finished dinner. On that day, we practiced dancing to the YMCA song and played some games in order to become closer with each other. Then, the staff divided us into a groups again and let us write song lyrics for PTT and create any kind of performance (could be dancing or any kind of performance) to perform for the next day for the Executive Vice President of Commercial and International Marketing in order to get a prize from PTT. Later on, the staff gave us a piece of paper to answer four questions that related to the camp about what we had learnt from the camp/activities, and what we thought needed to be improved for future camps. After that, we drew a man map of our dreams, and; hobby and we wrote as much as we wanted. Then we shared it with our new friends. After we finished, we sang a song together.
On the third day, 31st October, , we went to Samaesan Island because that day was the relaxation day for all of us to relax at the island. Some people went snorkeling and coral activities, some people played volley ball, some people rested and some people went swimming. However, for me at that day, I got seasick and carsick so I couldn’t enjoy any activities due to my sickness. I sat and watched my friends playing volley ball and we had lunch on the island. At around 3pm we went back to the PTT operations center at PTT Khao Bo Ya LPG Terminal, Chonburi Province. In the evening, each group practiced for their performance. However, before we started to perform, there was a speech by Executive Vice President of Commercial and International Marketing. He taught us if you want to do something and although it’s difficult you need to keep doing it until you achieve your goal and don’t give up easily. After his speech, each group started to perform and the winner was my group and we performed Titanic and sang and danced for PTT with our own lyrics. Finally, we finished all the activities since it was the last night for us and we shared our feelings with each other and thanked PTT staffs that always took care of us. We all were crying when we heard our friends’ speech because it was so meaningful for us.
The last day of our camp was on 2nd October. We departed to Cafe Amazon Coaching Academy (CACA) to attend the Cafe Amazon Barista workshop. We learnt how to make coffee and taste the coffee. Then, we departed to PTT Head Office to close the ceremony of the camp and for a thank you speech by Executive Vice President of Commercial and International Marketing and Aj. Yo.
In conclusion, this camp taught me to be a strong person and not to give up on anything that you want to do. I believe in myself and I am going to reach my goal. Actually I am not a positive thinking person and I’m not really brave to talk with strangers because I always think that I’m not as good as them, but once I got to know them, I felt like I was wrong to think in a negative way. After we spent 4 days 3 nights together until the last day, I really didn’t want to leave them because they are not only my friends but they are my family as well and they are very precious to me. Everyone was crying when we watched the video because the video was all about our moments that we spent together during the camp until the last day. If I could turn back the time I will turn back to that day again.
Moreover, I went to the camp not for fun, but to learn new things, to meet new people and to experience new things because I can gain more knowledge from the things that I do and I might have an opportunity to work for PTT in the future as well.
Finally, I would like to say thank you so much to PTT Company because they created such a wonderful camp for us. I hope you will organize this camp again for the new generation in the near future. Thank you so much to all PTT’s staffs for taking good care of all of the participants and we really appreciate it.
